Ubuntu is So Sweet!
I just installed Sun’s VirtualBox for Linux. As I write this I am using Ubuntu with a window open on another cube running Windows XP. What’s a cube, pray tell? Here’s a screenshot:

I am from the Future
Why?
1. Because I can…and I don’t want to write the story I’m working on.
2. Because it’s a pain to reboot and reload Windows every so often when I need to use some software that only runs there. Like TurboTax. Now I can run it inside Ubuntu and never have to reboot or worry about.
3. Because it’s cool to mess with The Man.

Ok…you got my attention. How does this work? What steps do you follow to make this happen?
The Deskcube can be enabled easiest from System-Preferences-CompizConfig Settings Manager. You have to check the Desk Cube box and the Rotate Cube box, then double-click (or click and hold) the Rotate Cube icon to customize the button combos to initiate and rotate it.
The Virtualbox was very easy to set up. Good directions can be found here. You will have to have a Windows XP CD and Key to install it….but you can also install virtually any operating system you want in the box. Supposedly 3D video does not work well in the box, so it's not good for gaming, but for running it apps there should be no problem–because it is not a simulation, it IS Windows or whatever in that little window. Email me offline if you want more info.
